about the HCEC

Founded in 2023, the Human Centered Engineering Consortium envisions a future where

engineering across disciplines prioritizes people, ethics, and societal impact.

We are a passionate and forward-thinking community of leaders and educators,

dedicated to advancing the field of Human Centered Engineering (HCE).

Rooted in an interdisciplinary approach, we bring together expertise from human centered design,

engineering design, art and design, social sciences, and business principles.

mission

To build a diverse community of practice that connects, promotes, and grows human centered engineering among programs, universities and industry.

vision

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, research, and education, we aim to advance engineering practices that are equitable, sustainable, and responsive to human needs.

HCEC objectives

  • Form a diverse network through establishing connections with Academic Leaders and Educators, Industry Professionals, Researchers and Innovators, community partners, government and policy makers, leaders in diversity and inclusion, innovative thinkers, collaborators in emerging fields and global partners, students, and aspiring Engineers.
  • Review and document the current landscape and literature around Human Centered Engineering (HCE), to develop a common HCE language and define research-supported HCE practices.
  • Create a safe and inclusive space for members to exchange and discuss ideas around the field of Human-Centered Engineering and its role in engineering.
  • Evaluate existing engineering programs and leverage Human Centered Engineering to create and sustain more diverse and equitable engineering programs.
  • Develop metrics that can assist program developers to evaluate existing engineering programs using an Human Centered Engineering lens.
  • Share Human Centered Engineering knowledge, expertise, and findings from research studies
  • Explore necessary resources and opportunities for funding to support the advancement of Human Centered Engineering programs and leaders.
